Are you concerned that identity thieves and hackers may
obtain your credit or debit card information and use it to make purchases with
your money? Or worse, fully emptying your bank account or accounts?
Sadly, that is a legitimate concern because it affects a great number of people
on a daily basis.
Although there are no assurances in today's world, you can keep your accounts
safe by being cautious with your card information and selective about where you
use it.
Today, I will share with you a little-known option that may significantly
reduce the risk of fraudulent charges and is accessible to the majority of
cardholders.
The likelihood that your card has one is rather high. It's
referred to as a "Card Lock." Simply sign into the account you use to
manage the card and search for a button or link labeled "Lock card"
or something similar to "Lock this card" to find out.
Certain cards will have the Lock/Unlock option prominently displayed as soon as
you log in to the account. For others, it's located under the "Manage
Card" or "Security" tabs.
You shouldn't be worried that locking your card would stop
planned bill payments or recurrent transactions from happening. All past due
recurring fees will be covered.
New transactions, including cash advances, purchases, and ATM withdrawals, will
be rejected.
Just unlock your card when you need to use it, and as soon as the purchase is
over, lock it again. Using the mobile applications from most banks, the
complete procedure just takes a few seconds.
